Princess Truly picture books

 Princess Truly

written by Kelly Greenawalt

illustrated by Amariah Rauscher.

The Princess Truly picture books by Kelly Greenawalt caught my attention in a bit of a roundabout way. I originally discovered the early reader Princess Truly books while searching for something engaging for my first grader, and we really enjoyed them. They were fun, accessible, and had just the right mix of simple text and imaginative storytelling to keep early readers excited.

While looking to see if there were more titles in that early reader format, I came across these picture books—and they turned out to be such a cute find. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and full of personality, really bringing Princess Truly’s world to life in a way that immediately pulls kids in. Each story feels like a small, self-contained adventure, often sparked by everyday moments that quickly grow into something playful and imaginative.

What I especially like is how they keep that same spirit from the early readers—confidence, creativity, and kindness—but wrap it in a format that works beautifully for read-aloud time. The stories are light, fun, and easy to follow, making them perfect for younger listeners or as a cozy bedtime read.

Overall, these picture books feel like a natural extension of a series we already loved—just a little more visual, a little more whimsical, and just as full of heart.

About Me

I’m a mom of eight.  One boy and 7 girls.  I have been raising young readers for over 20 years. I’ve read a lot of books, and reread the good ones time and time again.

I’ve seen it all: great stories with disappointing illustrations, and beautiful books with not much to say. I look for the rare ones that get both right—engaging stories paired with artwork that brings them to life. I look for both. I’m drawn to picture books where the writing and illustrations work together to create something truly engaging, even on the tenth read.

I’m unapologetically picky. I skip books where misbehavior is a joke and focus on the ones that are truly worth your time.

Here you’ll find honest reviews, carefully chosen favorites, and books kids genuinely come back to. More age groups will be added as my review library continues to grow.
